Guidance

Walking down a confined location such as an alleyway, especially in an urban environment, can present various safety considerations.

Why? It offers concealment to offenders. You won’t see them until it’s too late to take evasive action. i.e. running away.

While not every confined space is a hazard point, it’s good practice to exercise caution.

Techniques

Plan your route

If you’re not familiar with the area, familiarize yourself and plan your route in advance.

Knowing where you’re going and how to get there, can help you navigate confined or funnel locations more confidently.

Share your Live to Destination on Core Lite

Get location visibility and share your journey with select contacts. Contacts can view your live location and end destination.
Contacts receive an SMS with a link to view your details once you start sharing. Contacts can view on any device, they do not need to have the Core Lite app installed.

On arrival at your destination, contacts receive another SMS letting them know that you arrived.

It’s super easy to live share in two touches and it’s all automated, giving you more time for you.

Tell someone

Let someone know your whereabouts and estimated time of arrival if you’re walking through an alley, especially at night. This way, someone will be aware if you don’t arrive at your destination as expected.

Trust your instincts

If something doesn’t feel right or you sense danger, trust your instincts and leave the alley immediately. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Be situationally aware

Pay close attention to your surroundings. Keep your head up and avoid distractions such as staring at your phone or wearing headphones.

Being alert to your environment allows you to react quickly to any potential threats or obstacles.

Travel through areas with lighting

If possible, choose locations that are well-lit.

Adequate lighting can deter potential criminals and make it easier for you to see any potential hazards.

Walk with purpose

Appear confident and purposeful as you walk through the alley. Criminals are less likely to target someone who seems self-assured.

Maintain a steady pace.

Hands free

Keep your hands free.

It gives you tie to respond and create distance if someone gets too close.

Carry your phone and ensure it is charged and ready for use.
