Different countries have different preferred payment methods, card, cash or both.

Before you go, obtain currency for the destination you intend to visit.

Take enough cash to support you for a number of days, to minimize ATM withdrawals.

Options include ordering the foreign currency from a bank or currency provider.

Don’t leave obtaining foreign currency to the last minute. Often a booking notice is required to collect the currency. Obtaining cash at the last minute i.e. airport usually incurs additional fees.

Keep a quantity of cash on your person.

Not all locations take card or mobile phone based payments.

Choose to store cash overtly or covertly:

– Overtly: wallet, purse

– Covertly: folded and secured inside clothing, shoe

In the event your wallet/purse is stolen or lost, access the hidden currency, so you can get back to a hotel or known location.
