Guidance

Safety basics when staying at hotels.

Hardware you can use to reduce the risk of entry into your hotel room.

When arranging to meet people you’ve never met before (such as new friends or business associates), wait for them in the lobby. Don’t ask them to meet you in your room. Consider the context, but if you’re meeting new people and drinks, create a safety plan in Core Lite, or you want to share your location visibility with others.

Tips

Use the ‘Do not disturb’ sign on your room when you are ‘out and about.’

Carry a plastic door wedge when traveling. Insert under the entrance door if circumstances require it. It makes it more difficult for an offender to enter the room.

Another option is a bell on a string – sensitive, effective and popular. There are commercial siren based devices, however you need to consider other rooms, the hotel outlook. You may be asked to leave the hotel, if it continues to activate or during quiet hours.
