Guidance

Downed trees may present a hazard to the movement or people and may cause further damage to property.

Do not approach a downed tree. Stay at least 30ft (9m) away from the tree. They can spring back up. This gives your time to respond.

If in a vehicle, stay in the vehicle. Do not drive over the tree.

Create a barrier, using tape 30ft in each direction around the tree, to prevent other people and vehicles entering the hazard area.

If the tree is across a road and you have a vehicle, activate the hazard lights on and point the headlights at the downed tree.

Notify emergency services if the tree is a hazard to people or property.
