Guidance

Power lines down can create a significant hazard. Do not approach downed power lines.

Assume the power line is still live.

Stay 30ft (9m) away. Be aware that the line may be touching vehicles, metal fences or pools of water.

Do not drive over the power line.

If in a vehicle, stay in the vehicle.

Create a barrier to prevent other people and vehicles entering the hazard area i.e. use your vehicle with the hazard lights on. Direct the headlights onto the downed power lines. Another option is to use high visibility tape around the area.

Notify emergency services, who will contact a utility provider.
