Guidance

A heart attack or cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops pumping.

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a device that uses electricity to shock and re-start the heart and shock it back into its correct rhythm.

Using a defibrillator greatly increases a person’s chances of survival.

Defibrillators, also known as Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) can be found typically on walls in:

– Shopping malls

– Offices

– Public libraries

– Schools

– Public vehicles such as emergency responders

You can use a defibrillator whenever CPR is needed.

A person needs CPR if they are unresponsive and not breathing normally.

Anyone can use an AED.

The device audio will tell you what to do.

Follow the instructions on where to place the pads.

AEDs must be used in conjunction with CPR.

Make sure the area around the person is clear when in use and you are not touching the person.

Don’t touch the person while you are using the AED, because this could interfere with how it reads the person’s heart.
