Tips on how to reduce the risks when withdrawing cash from an ATM.

Ideally use brand name bank ATMs which are in openly visible locations with pedestrian traffic and good lighting.

If you are in an ATM room, common in cold weather environments, scan the environment before you go in and monitor. If you don’t feel safe, cancel the transaction, and leave.

Counter skimming hardware should be fitted to the ATM – keypad cover, with the screen unable to be viewed by another person. If this is not present, consider moving to another ATM that does have these features fitted.

Avoid ATM’s where your actions can be viewed above or recorded by other people.
