Guidance

A heart attack or cardiac arrest, occurs when the blood supply to the heart is blocked and your heart muscle can’t get enough oxygen.

Symptoms

A common symptom of a heart attack is chest pains that may spread to your arms, neck, jaw or back.

The person may be in discomfort, sweaty and pale skin, sick or lightheaded.

Treatment

Get them into a position of comfort.

Ask them if they have or need help taking any heart medication they may be using.

Call emergency services immediately or get someone else to do it.

Ask a bystander to locate and return with an AED or defibrillator in the event the persons heart stops.

Follow the Basic Life Support Action Plan DRSABCD.
