Guidance

Emergency services will want to speak with the most knowledgeable person at an event to find out what happened.

Emergency services will want to know Who, What, When, Why, Where, How.

Keep it basic unless asked. Keep it short.

Be clear about what happened. It assists their decision making and ability to provide assistance.

Create an area where emergency services can park their vehicles. Make it easy for them.

Police

If the matter is criminal in nature:

– Clarify the reason that police are speaking to you if it is not clear

– Ask police of your obligations and rights when speaking to them

– Prior to providing information to police, consider the context and consider obtaining legal advice

Ask for a business or calling card from police, so you know where they are stationed, should there be follow up enquiries.

Make a note of what happened, what was said in your mobile phone or on paper.

This may be needed at a later date to refresh your memory as to what happened.
